Our care home in Stoke-on-Trent transformed its café and reception into a superhero hangout for a celebration in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
Residents, relatives and team members at Springfield Manor Care Home, on Godwin Way, joined in fancy dress, mask-making and superhero face and body painting at the Friday celebration.
Around 70 residents enjoyed buffets across the home’s four communities, while around 30 people, including residents, relatives and team members, took part in photographs, fancy dress and creative activities.
Resident Margaret dressed as Wonder Woman, alongside Activity Coordinator Nicky as Catwoman, while Wellbeing Lead Megan appeared as Batman. Fellow resident Frank wore a handmade mask, and Mavis and Selwyn posed with the superhero photo booth frame.
Preparations included superhero crafts and an Avengers film marathon in the home’s cinema. Residents Gerry, Anne, Roma, Bernadette and Ken contributed artwork to the photo booth frame, while Art Club participants turned cardboard tubes into characters including Superman, Wonder Woman, the Incredible Hulk, Batman and Robin.
Kitchen and wellbeing team members Sarah, Alana, Di, Megan and Nicky prepared buffets for the four communities and café. The themed spread included a Spider-Man cake decorated by Megan and Nicky and a Captain America fruit shield made by the activities team.
The home raised money for Alzheimer’s Society as part of Highgate’s wider Superhero Summer initiative, celebrating the everyday heroes living and working in its homes.
With September marking World Alzheimer’s Month, the celebration also offers a reminder of the importance of supporting people living with dementia and their families. The international awareness month encourages understanding of dementia and challenges stigma.
